A Rogues Gallery:
A Tribute to my Friend and Mentor, Captain  John Leeper,
Captain of the Research Vessel BETA.
I met John Leeper on Grand Cayman in the early 70s and signed on as diesel engineer and magnetometer operator for the Research Vessel BETA. It was the start of an excellent adventure and a friendship that lasted thirty years.

Many of the photos were supplied by Eric Leeper, John's son, who heads the National Organization for Rivers (www.nationalrivers.org) dedicated to river conservations, access and navigability law. We don't know all of the crew pictured here, so if you have any stories of the voyages of BETA we'd love to hear from you at Bernard@RellerGold.com.
